Bill Gates

Bill Gates the owner and founder of Microsoft

Bill Gates as we all know is a world-renowned genius and multi billionaire. But he didnít start out that way. Gates from a young age had always taken a likening to and fascination in programming things. He went to a public elementary then progressed all the way to Harvard University. There he continued his love for programming more professionally. While in college, Bill and his childhood friend Paul Allen developed computer software called BASIC. In his junior year Bill left college to devote himself to his company Microsoft he had started with his friend Paul Allen. Bills company flourished as more people became aware of computers and started to depend upon them. Over the years windows has introduced many operating systems such as windows 95, 98, Me(Millennium Edition), 2000 , the XP series, and finally windows vista. Bill and his company made millions off theses products.

Now you may be thinking, How did Bill Gates and Microsoft get SOOOO much money? and that is a very interesting and very good question. Microsoft was really the first computer company to introduce the GUI (Graphical User Interface) with its Windows 95 operating system and this really got people into computers. Before GUI the interface we use now, all computers were command given workers that had no mouse and could not be done much with by an ordinary person. Microsoft has an ongoing way of releasing products, Microsoft sets a date that their product will be released, then they realize that they will not be able to work all the bugs out of the operating systems, so they take all the cool new stuff of the system for later release and then work out the bugs one by one and by the time that process is done a newer operating system is almost or is ready for release.

Bill has also started his own foundation called the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This foundation reaches out to people in need of health and learning needs. It has donated an approximate 28.8 billion dollars (as of January 2005) the needs of people and they hope that these privileges that some of us get will be available to all people in good time. I hope you have like our web page and will learn a lot from it, thank you.

William Henry Gates III was born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington. Bill Gates told his university teachers that he would be a millionaire by age 30. He was a billionaire at age 31! He is currently the chairman of Microsoft Corporation, and is the world’s third richest man at $58 billion US. He attended Harvard University, and is the co-chair of the gates Foundation. Bill is married to Melinda French Gates, and he earns about $250 a second.

Do you have any children, and if so how old are they?
Yes, in fact Melinda and I have three kids. Their names are Jennifer born in 1996, Rory born in 1999 and Phoebe born in 2002. One of my favourite pastimes has to be spending time with my wife and kids.

What were you thinking when Microsoft was just a company in the making?
Paul (Allen) and I co-founded Microsoft in 1975 when I was only 19. Within a few years Microsoft had made a name for itself with our operating systems and shrewd business deals. One of our earliest successes was the MS-DOS operating system which is still used today. Now Microsoft has grown to be the largest software company there is and we’re not planning on slowing down. Our latest operating system is Windows Vista.

What did it feel like to see your product be such a huge success?
It truly felt great, I mean all that hard work had finally paid off. I felt so proud of myself and I think it might’ve boosted my self esteem as well. Those kinds of feeling only come around a few times in your life.

When did you first become interested in computers?
At the age of thirteen, my middle school had ASR-33 teletype terminal and I learnt to program a computer on that machine. The first program I created was a tic-tac-toe game in which you could play against the computer, ah those were the days!

So Bill, what did it feel like when you were de-throned from being the world’s richest man?
Well, I didn’t really care that much, because I knew that all of the money was going to a good cause; The Gates Foundation. The Gates Foundation globally, try to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty, and, in the United States, to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology.

Subject: upcoming Microsoft – Netscape Conference

I’m worried. I know I have more than enough money to retire, but I don’t like the risk of Netscape (the first major internet browser creator) eliminating Microsoft. I find it ironic that Netscape, like Microsoft, plans to take over a brand new market, the internet this time, and crush or partner with the other companies in related fields. This will be a hard war but we have the resources we need to win this battle. I have just composed and sent a letter to the Microsoft staff about work on the new Internet Explorer. We need to prepare a major blow against Netscape, or we’ll never win. I have hope that the upcoming conference with Netscape will explain to them that we will win, but they don’t necessarily have to lose (not that badly anyway).

Subject: Eliminating Netscape

The conference went well. Too well. They underestimate Microsoft. They don’t think we’re a threat. I think they’re wrong. We will come out on top. I have had an idea: we will launch Internet Explorer free with Windows. That way, people will just have to download Internet Explorer free from the Windows menu instead of having to “look or search” for the Netscape’s browser. After Netscape is defeated, I may be able to finally achieve my goal of having every pc running Microsoft software.

Personal Diary Date: August 17, 1995

Woke up to the sound of my wife, Melinda, frying bacon. Ate breakfast and played minesweeper for half an hour. Should be checking my e-mail, I probably have about 250 new messages since waking up. Received red-flagged e-mail from my lawyer titled congress, wonder what this is about. Bad news, Microsoft is being held before the Supreme Court on charges of monopolizing the market. This should not be hard to win. I hope I can get this squared away so that I can spend some quality time with Melinda (I haven’t had a true conversation with her since the Netscape thing finished).

Here are some funny Bill Gates/Microsoft cartoons, enjoy:
