I don't think that it went too well because we didn't have Vishal. And because we went too quickly and so it only took us 10 minutes. I think overall, in the whole time that we had to do it again, I would want us to go A LOT slower. And, Varun forgot to do his homework or atleast did not bring it from home, so I was basically the only on talking and I had to have just Varun answer my questions.

Summary

My summary of this last section was about..
Sade and Femi had already went to Mr. Seven o'Clock News. However, this time, the story finally aired. Then people began to protest about making Papa go back to Nigeria. So Papa started to go on a hunger strike himself. As time passed, doctors started to become worried and wanted him to go through tests. A little while later, the prison released Papa and he went back to Sade and Femi on Christmas morning.

The following passage was important because it portrays/shows a lot of feelings that were bottled up inside Sade:
"Sade shoved the card and pens into the desk drawer and flung herself back under the quilt. She had only got into this because of Madams Marcia and Donna. If only she had never set eyes on them! She never wanted to be in the same school. Not even the same country. She just wanted to be at HOME. LAGOS NOT LONDON. She hadn't chosen to come. Her head throbbed. Why did Papa have to write all those things that upset the Brass Button Generals? Why didn't he just keep away from people that meant trouble? Like Mariam's uncle said-"Just keep away."

Everyone in the group was actively engaged in the discussion. Though the passage master and vocabulary enricher didn’t have many phrases or vocabulary words related to my questions, their response to my questions were very thoughtful. I think we could have slowed down a bit more though. Next time, we will answer clearly and have better enunciation. We will also take turns answering questions.

The reason why I chose the words that I did were supposed to help people when they stumbled on them. So if they were to reread the particular sentence, you would find it much easier.
I think that the most important words were... Tinny... which means... containing tin, sounds thin or twangy and flimsy. it's important because not a lot of people know what that word means and maybe not even how to pronounce it. The next word is niggle... which means... to criticize constantly or repeatedly in a petty way. I thought that word was important because you wouldn't know how Sade was feeling or thinking without knowing the definition of this word. So i think that it would help a lot and you would be able to understand the sentence.
Passage Master
The most important passage was the one where we realize that Sade’s English is not as good as we thought it was. It was on page 190 paragraph 4. When we discussed this we were arguing whether it was proper grammar or not and we came to a conclusion that it was not.

We discussed about how their lies built up to a bigger conflict and risks, especially thier father trying to find them with their last name Solaja. Also, we all agrred that power was much stronger than intelligence in real life than it is in fiction books, because the government usually has both the power and control over their country whether it is for their own benefit or not. We discussed a lot about how Sade and Femi's father was in a situation that he was forced to lie and travel with another man's passport. Although it turned out him being jailed, it showed us how much he wanted to be with his children that he even lied and risked being caught. Some of the topics that worked well were relating to world and the power that the government has, but it was a rather weak discussion when we came to relating ourselves to Sade and Femi. As we were discussing, I thought that we could do better on getting deeper into the meanings of some sentences that could have been confusing.
Summarizer – In the first part of todays reading, Sade is overcome with guilt after recalling Mariams Story. Later, Mama Appiah brings News to the house of the Kings: Sades and Femis father is in jail, but in London. They visit him and letters are sent back and forth. The bad thing is that Mr. Nathan does not succeed in convincing court that Mr. Solaja is the father of Femi and Sade. So, the children decide to take matters into their own hands, and bring their story to the seven o'clock news! -LUCAS

Crowed and ochre were the most important vocabulary words. Crowed is a verb, and it means to exult gloatingly especially over the distress of another. This word is important because it shows Kevin’s attitude toward Sade and Femi. Ochre is an adjective, and it is an earthy usually red or yellow color and often impure iron ore used as a pigment. I picked this word because I was sure that the members in my group wouldn’t know it; it is an uncommon word.

The passages that I chose were supposed to make people understand what was happening better and to be able to continue on while knowing what they're reading. I believe that the most important passage that I chose was on page 141, paragraph 3.
"Thank you, Auntie. Good-night." Sade tried to smile. One hand on the banisters, she leaped up two stairs at a time. Without knocking on Femi's door, she turned the handle softly and slipped in. Femi was already in bed, reading a comic. He scowled at her.
"Femi, I want to talk with you," she whispered, sitting down at the lower end of his bed. Her brother produced a loud irritated click.
We started to talk about why I had chosen that particular passage. So they came up with different reasons such as, Femi's growing further and further away from Sade or that he's just in a bad mood. So what I originally meant for this passage was that he was growing further and further away from Sade and we couldn't figure out how he was feeling.

The summary of the pages we read were about Sade and Femi moving to the King's house and them being sent to new schools. Sade is irritated that they are making her do stuff that she hasn't had a chance to put her voice in. But when she actually gets there, it's even worse. Marcia and Donna keeps bullying Sade and threatens her that Femi will be in trouble if she doesn't follow her rules. Sade doesn't want to put Femi into danger, not want to disappoint her English teacher, but Marcia and Donna calls her the teacher's pet and keeps insisting that it's better for her if she do as she's told. Just when Sade was getting her hopes up again by trying to get intouch with her uncle, it doesn't work, which means having to face Maricia and her gang for a while. But Sade's not sure if stealing is what she has to do to be on the safe side.

The most important passage that said a lot in a few words was opn page 84 paragraph 14:
"Femi stiffened beside her, pushing his feet against the carpet. Before Sade was able to wipe it away, a large tear dropped on to the pad on her lap."

This passage sparked a discussion on just how miserable Femi and Sade are. They are torn between telling the truth or lying, and also there dead mother hasn't left their minds the whole trip. || Discussion Director – Your job is to summarize your thoughts about the discussion. This last section we read dealt with Sade and Femi being alone in London. They had gotten stuck in a video store and ended up as suspects. They met Social Security members and Foster Home people. They remained silent, but they did give some information with little white lies. Now they need to get into more detail, so who knows what will happen next?

They need to find a way in order for their family to stay without getting caught, but they are in the middle of a tough situation because they have already started telling lies.

Today, we had a great day discussing. We found major ties to ourselves and to the world through the reading. We discussed how racism is a big issue in the book and how it affects the main characters. In one part of the reading, they get seen by some people as beggars. We asked ourselves if it was the way they dressed or their skin colour that made them seem that way. We talked at last about how we have experience racism and how it has changed our lives, comparing it to the characters in the book. Today we were all respectful in discussion, and are looking forward to the next chapters. -LUCAS

The revving of a car and skidding of tires smothers his voice.

Her bag topples from the bed, spilling books, pen and pencil onto the floor. She races to the verandah, pushing past Femi in the doorway. His body is wooden with fright.
