"Where is he? Where is my brother? What happened to him?"
Only these unanswerable questions are being shouted all over
By the soldiers who have no choice
Only fight or die
The crackling sound of guns being reloaded
The sounds of the men slipping above
The sounds of men pouring medicine over their feet
And pulling on their boots again, to fight
Here and there, everywhere
Cries of misery and loss of all hope
The captain calls the names of the men who must stay awake
And guard the trench for the night
Its quiet but we must be alert and awake
If we fall asleep, we die
If they attack us at night, we can get killed
If we survive, we keep fighting
